- This is a picture of my daughter, Maura. She died from metastatic high-grade unclassified sarcoma* on May 19, 2009 at the age of 22. For one year I wrote about her journey with cancer. I don't know if I'll keep writing now or if I'm done. We'll just take it a day at a time. *Sarcoma is a little-known, under-researched, under-funded cancer. To contribute directly to research please consider giving a gift directly to: MD Anderson Cancer Center- Donations, PO Box 4486, Houston TX 77210-4486 ****(Please write "In memory of Maura de Souza " in the memo portion of the check to make sure it goes directly for sarcoma research.)

What a beautiful ceremony. I have huge resoect for the SHSU faculty and choir, and OF COURSE, for it's most recent graduate. Maura, you look beautiful!! I loved to see you smile so broadly and sing along with the choir. Erin, you look so happy and proud, too. Congratulations!! Shari

Let me begin by saying what a BEAUTIFUL, BEAUTIFUL story. Sweet Maura what a talented, strong, determined young woman you are. I feel like I was there and have known ya'll forever. Also, KUTTO'S to SHSU for being compassionate and coming to you for your BIG WONDERFUL DAY!
Maura, please know that although we have never met, you have so touched my heart. I will always remember you! You, your family and friends will be in my thoughts, my heart and my prayers daily, especially you and your parents.
You are one of the most BEAUTIFUL, STRONG, TALENTED YOUNG WOMEN I have had the priviledge of praying for.

Maura, your graduation was almost as beautiful as you are! What a special day for you and your family. I am so glad that I got to grow up knowing someone as cool as you! God blessed me by allowing me to know you. You're in my thoughts and prayers.

Sweet Erin - May the Lord Bless you and your precious family more than you can think or imagine. I haven't seen Maura since she was a little girl and now to have the privilege of seeing the most beautiful young woman and the most awesome graduation ever. Thank you for the privilege, what a blessing for everyone.

I wish I would have known about this. I would've so been there...Maura definitely left a huge impression on my life...she will be greatly missed but I'm glad she is in heaven with our Lord and Savior
I had Spanish class with Maura at SHSU. We didn't talk much but she was very nice and beautiful. I don't know why but she popped in my mind today. She will never be forgotten.
