- This is a picture of my daughter, Maura. She died from metastatic high-grade unclassified sarcoma* on May 19, 2009 at the age of 22. For one year I wrote about her journey with cancer. I don't know if I'll keep writing now or if I'm done. We'll just take it a day at a time. *Sarcoma is a little-known, under-researched, under-funded cancer. Love that this is something those of us who are miles away can do to honor Maura and be with you there in spirit.
My name is Nick and you all have no idea who I am. I heard about Maura through a friend that she attended school with.
I just wanted you all to know Mauras story is one that will never leave my heart. I praise all of you for being so strong during all that has happened.
I will continue to pray for you and tomorrow I will wear yellow.

I never knew Maura personally. I live in New York. I only know of her story through a person who knows her sister, who posted this blog link to a few of us and explained what has been happening.
I just want you to know that I have been sending all of my good wishes to your family since I have known and I was deeply saddened to learn that Maura passed away. I will say that Maura and her whole family have taught me the lesson of cherishing those close to me... a lesson we're often taught but also forget... and I thank you all for it.
